Trump Expresses Disappointment After Putin Call, Says No Progress on Ukraine War
U.S. President Donald Trump said he was “very disappointed” following a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this week, revealing no signs of progress toward ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters on Friday after returning from a pre-Independence Day event in Iowa, Trump said: “I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had Thursday with President Putin because I don’t think he’s there,” according to the New York Post.
Trump added that Putin showed no indication of wanting to bring an end to the three-year-long conflict.
“I’m just saying, I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad,” he said.
The U.S. president also took a swipe at former President Joe Biden’s administration, blaming it for the current situation.
“I got stuck in the middle of it, just like I did with immigration and a lot of other things that they screwed up,” Trump stated.
He confirmed that his phone call with Putin, which lasted a considerable amount of time, included discussions on various issues — among them Iran and Ukraine — but yielded no progress.
“No, I didn’t make any progress with him today at all,” Trump admitted.
The Russia-Ukraine war, which began in 2022, has become a central issue in U.S. foreign policy and the upcoming presidential election, with Trump promising to end the conflict if re-elected — though without providing a clear roadmap.
