Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) CEO Linda McMahon has been nominated by US President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Department of Education.
Trump announced the decision on Tuesday, emphasizing McMahon’s dedication to “Parents’ Rights” and her role in plans to return control of education to state governments.
“Linda will spearhead efforts to send education back to the states,” Trump stated, reiterating his campaign pledge to abolish the federal education department.
McMahon, who previously served as head of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term, has a history of political involvement, including an unsuccessful run for the US Senate in 2009. She also chaired the Center for the American Worker at the America First Policy Institute.
In addition to her business acumen, Trump cited McMahon’s experience in education governance, including her service on Connecticut’s Board of Education and as a trustee at Sacred Heart University.
McMahon has a long-standing association with Trump, dating back to her years as WWE’s CEO. Her ties with Trump were highlighted during her speech at the Republican National Convention, where she praised his leadership and their professional relationship.
The nomination aligns with Trump’s broader strategy of placing business leaders and political allies in key government roles. If confirmed, McMahon will lead the charge in reshaping federal education policies under Trump’s vision.
