Trump Pledges $2,000 ‘Tariff Dividend’ for Most Americans, Says Payments Will Come From Tariff Revenues

U.S. President Donald Trump says his administration will issue a one-time payment of at least $2,000 to most Americans, which he claims will be funded entirely from U.S. tariff revenues.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump said the payment would be distributed to all Americans except those in the “high-income” bracket. He described the initiative as a benefit of what he called a booming U.S. economy and strong tariff policy.

According to Trump, increased tariff collections have brought “trillions of dollars” into the country, which he said would also be used to help reduce the national debt, currently estimated at $37 trillion.

“People that are against tariffs are fools,” he wrote. “We are now the richest, most respected country in the world, with almost no inflation and a record stock market. A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high-income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

Following the announcement, Trump posted additional messages criticizing the U.S. Supreme Court over its legal stance on presidential tariff powers. He argued that a president should have broad authority to impose tariffs for national security and economic reasons.

“So let’s get this straight?” he wrote. “The President of the United States is allowed to stop all trade with a foreign country, but is not allowed to put a simple tariff on a foreign country? That is NOT what our great Founders had in mind.”

Trump maintained that tariffs have encouraged manufacturing and business returns to the United States, insisting that his trade policies are driving economic growth.

The White House has not yet released further details on how or when the payments would be issued, nor the income threshold that will determine eligibility. Congressional approval may also be required for any nationwide direct payment program.
