Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump addressed a cryptocurrency conference in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, pledging to transform the United States into the “crypto capital of the planet” and a “bitcoin superpower” if elected for a second term.
Trump proposed the creation of a bitcoin strategic reserve using the government’s current holdings and vowed to establish a crypto advisory council. He assured attendees that future regulations would be crafted by crypto enthusiasts, contrasting his plans with the Biden administration’s regulatory efforts.
“Regulations will be written by people who love your industry, not hate your industry,” Trump emphasized. He also expressed a desire for cryptocurrency to be “mined, minted, and made” in the US.
Trump’s newfound support for cryptocurrency marks a significant shift from his earlier skepticism, where he had previously dismissed digital currencies as “highly volatile” and even labeled bitcoin a “scam.” His campaign has recently started accepting donations in cryptocurrency, further reflecting his change in stance.
