Trump Threatens to Strike Iran’s Power Plants Over Strait of Hormuz Blockade

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could target Iran’s power infrastructure if Tehran fails to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

In a post on Truth Social late Saturday, Trump said Washington would “hit and obliterate” Iran’s power plants, starting with the largest, if the waterway is not reopened “fully” and without threats to oil tankers.

The warning comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with global energy markets closely monitoring developments around the vital shipping route, which handles a significant share of the world’s oil supply.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf was quoted by CNN as saying Tehran would retaliate if the U.S. follows through on the threat. He warned that Iran could target infrastructure and energy facilities across the region, potentially driving oil prices even higher.

The situation follows renewed hostilities involving Iran and Israel. Reports indicate that around 175 people were injured in Iranian missile strikes on the southern Israeli towns of Arad and Dimona, areas located near Israel’s main nuclear research and reactor facilities.

Last week, Trump also called on members of the NATO to support efforts to secure and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage between Iran and Oman used for global oil shipments.

Several countries, including Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan, expressed readiness to assist in ensuring safe navigation through the corridor.

Iran shut the waterway on February 28 following reported U.S. and Israeli strikes targeting its nuclear programme and long-range missile production facilities, further intensifying the standoff.
