Turkey Condemns Israeli Ban on UNRWA, Calls It Violation of International Law

Turkey has denounced Israel’s recent ban on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), describing the move as a breach of international law. The Israeli parliament, the Knesset, passed the ban on UNRWA’s operations within its borders, citing concerns over alleged ties to terrorist activities.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry condemned the decision, asserting that Israel’s actions target the agency to undermine the two-state solution and hinder the right of Palestinian refugees to return. Turkey emphasized that UNRWA, since its establishment in 1949, has provided essential support to millions of Palestinian refugees, playing a critical role in maintaining regional stability.

“It is the legal and moral obligation of the international community to stand against attempts to restrict UNRWA, a body created by a UN General Assembly resolution,” the statement declared. Turkey also reaffirmed its commitment as chair of the UNRWA financing group to continue political and financial support for the agency, calling on other nations to uphold UNRWA’s mandate to assist Palestinian refugees and ensure peace in the region.
