Turkish Police Arrest 520 in Nationwide Drug Trafficking Crackdown
Turkish police have detained 520 individuals in a major crackdown on drug manufacturing and trafficking, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. The nationwide operations, known as “Narkocelik-32,” targeted 59 provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, involving 3,250 officers.
During these raids, authorities seized over 3.7 tonnes of narcotics and 861,000 drug pills. The Interior Minister shared the details of the operations on social media platform X, though the exact timing of the actions was not disclosed.
Türkiye has intensified its efforts against drug smuggling since 2023, as the country remains a key transit point for illegal drugs destined for European markets.
