Two BRT Buses Collide in Lagos, Several Passengers Injured
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed on Wednesday that several passengers were injured following a collision involving two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in Lagos.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, revealed in a statement that the incident occurred along the BRT corridor at Iyana-Ipaja, inward Pleasure road.
LASEMA’s Dolphin Response Team, stationed at the Igando Base, was dispatched after receiving distress calls through the emergency hotlines 767 and 112 at 11:39 PM. Upon arrival, responders discovered that the two BRT buses had collided after one attempted to avoid a commercial motorcyclist carrying passengers who had illegally entered the BRT corridor.
“While trying to avoid hitting the motorcyclist, the BRT bus collided with another oncoming bus,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
Though no lives were lost, passengers aboard both buses sustained varying degrees of injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Two tow trucks were activated to clear the damaged buses from the road.
