Two Hotel Staff Arraigned for Allegedly Stealing N1.1 Million
Two hotel employees were arraigned on Friday before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing N1.1 million. The accused, Tayo Abosede, a 30-year-old cleaner, and Yeye Omosuyi, an assistant manager, faced charges of felony and theft.
Police Prosecutor ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi informed the court that the defendants, along with three others still at large, conspired to commit the crime on July 1 at about 10:30 a.m. at No. 10, Oluwatuyi Street, Okitipupa.
The defendants allegedly stole an Ecobank ATM card belonging to one Folayemi Igbayemin and transferred N1.1 million through a POS operator into another Ecobank account owned by Omosuyi.
The defendants are charged under Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. Both pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Philip Akinlosetu granted them bail of N500,000 each, along with one surety per defendant in the same amount. The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of two years of tax payments to the state government.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 12 for further hearing.
