Uganda Embraces Young Nigerian Artists, Celebrates Qing Madi’s Successful Concert

Uganda has further solidified its reputation as a strong supporter of young Nigerian artists, following the successful performance of Nigerian singer Qing Madi at the ‘NRG Roar’ concert held at Zoe Grounds, Lugogo, on September 7, 2024.

Chidinma Chukwuma, popularly known as Qing Madi, took to social media to share her gratitude and excitement after her first performance outside Nigeria. In a video shared on her channels, an enthusiastic crowd in Uganda is seen singing along to her hits, with some emotional fans shedding tears.

Reflecting on the concert, Madi expressed her joy, saying, “So many people discouraged me, saying it was too early and that no one would attend. But I trusted in God’s plan, and Uganda turned up for me in ways I will never forget.” She added that the event marked a significant moment in her musical career.

The 19-year-old artist, known for songs like “American Love,” has gained popularity rapidly despite only being in the industry for a little over a year. Her fans in Uganda took to social media, showering her with love and reaffirming the country’s support for emerging Nigerian artists.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, will always welcome you. Congratulations on your success!” Another echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Ugandans love good music! Keep the fire burning, Qing Madi—Uganda loves and supports Naija music.”

This enthusiastic response marks a notable shift in sentiment following a 2020 incident in which Nigerian artists Omah Lay and Tems were detained for breaking Uganda’s COVID-19 regulations. Despite that, Uganda has continued to embrace Nigerian talent, having previously hosted major artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and Davido.

Qing Madi’s concert further reinforces Uganda’s role as a key supporter of young African talent, solidifying its place as a hub for Afrobeat and other popular genres from across the continent.
