A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued across parts of northern England, the Midlands, and Wales as the UK’s ongoing heatwave intensifies, with temperatures expected to soar to 34°C (93°F) on Saturday.

According to the Met Office, the combination of extreme heat and humidity could spark severe weather, including torrential downpours, flash flooding, large hail, and lightning between Saturday and Sunday.

Ahead of the stormy conditions, Friday is expected to bring widespread hot weather, with temperatures reaching up to 32°C (90°F) in some areas.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has extended its amber heat-health alert for England through Monday, warning that the heatwave poses a risk to older adults, people with existing health conditions, and could strain health and social care services.

“Heat can result in serious health outcomes across the population,” said Dr. Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at UKHSA. “It is important to check on vulnerable friends, family, and neighbors, and to take sensible precautions while enjoying the sun.”

While temperatures are forecast to ease slightly in southern and eastern regions by Sunday, cooler air is expected to sweep in from the west. However, forecasters warn the heat may return by the middle of next week.
