UK Hosts Blinken for Strategic Talks to Strengthen ‘Special Relationship’

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy will meet U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in London on Tuesday as part of ongoing discussions to enhance the longstanding “special relationship” between the two nations.

According to the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), the talks will focus on continued support for Ukraine, efforts toward a peaceful resolution in the Middle East, and the commitment to a two-state solution. Both officials are also expected to explore ways to strengthen economic and security ties between the UK and the U.S.

This meeting marks the inaugural session of what is planned to be an annual “strategic dialogue” between the two countries. Lammy emphasized the importance of the U.S.-UK alliance, stating that the UK has “no greater friend” than the United States.

“For over 80 years, our special relationship has been a cornerstone of transatlantic security and growth,” Lammy said. “In today’s more volatile world, it is vital that we remain united in our economic and security partnerships, ensuring the safety and prosperity of both Brits and Americans.”

Blinken and Lammy last met during the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., in July, further underlining the close cooperation between the two allies.
