The United Kingdom aviation authorities have expressed their willingness to engage in discussions about slot allocations for Nigerian airline, Air Peace, at Heathrow Airport, London’s premier airport.
In early September, Nigeria’s Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, sent a diplomatic letter to the UK authorities, requesting landing slots for Air Peace at Heathrow, as part of efforts to ensure fairer access to international airspace for Nigerian airlines.
Responding to the request, UK Secretary of State for Transport, Louise Haigh, confirmed that her department is open to further discussions. She indicated that the matter would be addressed during the upcoming International Civil Aviation Negotiations event in October 2024.
These discussions follow Nigeria’s recent warning to deny UK carriers landing slots at Lagos and Abuja airports if Air Peace continues to be denied access to Heathrow.
