A British woman, soon to turn 116, has been officially verified as the UK’s oldest living person, with her family crediting her long life to resilience and adaptability.

Ethel, who previously lived in Hong Kong where she ran an English-teaching nursery, later settled in Gibraltar with her husband, where they had two daughters. The family eventually returned to England, where Ethel spent the rest of her life.

Now residing in a care home in Lightwater, Surrey, Ethel recently marked her 115th birthday surrounded by loved ones. Her growing family includes three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Her age and longevity have been verified by the Gerontology Research Group and LongeviQuest, both of which specialize in tracking and validating the world’s oldest individuals.

Ethel’s family say her strength, adaptability, and positive spirit have been central to her remarkable lifespan.
