The United Nations has raised alarm over the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Lebanon as Israeli bombardments intensify, further amplifying the suffering of vulnerable populations.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Wednesday highlighted the severe impact of the ongoing conflict, noting that at least 600,000 people have been displaced within Lebanon since the October 7 attacks on Israel. OCHA warned that the situation is worsening at an “alarming rate.”
Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed the deaths of four people following an Israeli airstrike in an area south of Beirut on Wednesday.
As the conflict escalates, 80 percent of the 978 collective shelters housing displaced individuals have reached full capacity, with most of them being converted schools.
The start of the school year has been postponed until November due to the violence, with UNICEF reporting that around 350,000 children have been displaced during the ongoing crisis.
