The United States has lifted a hold on the transfer of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, according to three Israeli officials who spoke to Axios. The decision to release the weapons was made following instructions from the Trump White House to the Pentagon, reversing a suspension imposed by the Biden administration.
In May, President Biden paused the delivery of a shipment of MK-84 bombs, marking a significant strain in US-Israel relations during the 15-month Gaza conflict. However, Israeli officials confirmed that the Pentagon notified the Israeli cabinet on Friday about the resumption of the transfer.
A shipment of 1,800 MK-84 bombs, stored in the US, is set to be shipped to Israel in the coming days.
The Biden administration had previously provided $17.9 billion in military aid to Israel between October 2023 and October 2024—roughly six times the standard annual aid. This period coincided with the height of the Gaza war, which recently ended with a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, following sustained Palestinian and regional resistance operations against Israeli forces.
