…….Spain’s 136-Point Plan Includes Housing Support, Infrastructure Repair
Following catastrophic floods that claimed 217 lives, Spain’s Valencia region has requested €31.4 billion ($34 billion) in emergency funds from the national government to support recovery efforts.
Valencia’s president, Carlos Mazon, introduced a detailed 136-point recovery plan, which was unveiled during an emergency Cabinet meeting. The proposal includes €15,000 per household in housing support, €7 billion for industrial area reconstruction, €2.6 billion for public infrastructure repair, and €2.2 billion allocated to flood prevention initiatives.
The regional plan also incorporates €6,000 in direct payments for affected residents, with distributions scheduled to start this week. Additionally, a regional aid package of €250 million has been set aside, and municipalities will receive at least €200,000 each to address urgent costs.
The severe floods and Storm Dana left widespread destruction, impacting over 20,000 hectares of farmland, damaging 30% of homes, and causing losses in numerous hospitals, industrial sites, and shopping centers.
