Controversial social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has pledged to sponsor a new video for Eedris Abdulkareem’s protest track, Tell Your Papa, which was recently banned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The NBC had declared the song “improper and disrespectful,” prompting a nationwide conversation after the ban brought the previously overlooked track into the spotlight. In the song, Abdulkareem calls on Seyi Tinubu to inform his father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, about the worsening hardship and insecurity in Nigeria.
Reacting to the development via a video posted on social media, VeryDarkMan criticized the government’s move, insisting that the song reflects the harsh realities many Nigerians face. He announced plans to fund and feature in a new version of the music video titled Tell Your Papa 2.
“This government doesn’t want people to hear the truth. Isn’t there hardship in the country? Aren’t people dying from insecurity?” he said.
VDM added that social media would serve as the new platform for the song’s message, saying, “We’ll shoot another video, sponsor it ourselves, and spread it online. If we can’t get the President, we’ll find a lookalike for the video. And this time, we’ll highlight even more of the problems Nigerians are facing.”
He accused the authorities of trying to silence dissenting voices by controlling traditional media, urging Nigerians to stay vocal through alternative platforms.
