Viral Lagos Corper Who Criticized Nigerian Government Claims NYSC Withheld Her Certificate Despite Completing Service
Raye, the Lagos-based youth corps member who went viral earlier this year for openly criticizing the Nigerian government during her Passing Out Parade, has now revealed that she was denied her NYSC certificate — despite successfully completing her one-year mandatory service.
In a new update shared online, Raye stated that officials at her Local Government Area cited her failure to “clear” in April as the reason for withholding her certificate. However, she insists she was present at the LGA office on her scheduled date but was repeatedly dismissed and told to “go to the back” by the Local Government Inspector (LGI). Eventually, she claims the official confiscated her file and ordered her to leave.
Frustrated and disillusioned, Raye described the ordeal as a waste of her time and an example of systemic oppression. “I already know how the final verdict will end,” she said, adding that she’s now choosing to close that chapter and move on with her life.
The situation has sparked widespread discussion online, with many condemning the NYSC’s actions and accusing the agency of punishing her for speaking out. Watch her full statement in the video below
