WAFCON: Minister Hails Super Falcons’ Comeback Win as ‘Monumental Achievement’
Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has congratulated the Super Falcons on their dramatic victory over hosts Morocco to win the 2024/2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Super Falcons overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final on Saturday in Rabat, clinching their record-equalling continental title.
In a statement released Sunday in Abuja by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, the minister described the win as a “monumental achievement” that underscores Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
“This is more than a win on the pitch; it is a powerful symbol of the strength, discipline, and unbreakable spirit of Nigerian women,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim stated.
She praised the team’s resilience, unity, and calm under pressure, saying their performance would inspire a new generation of girls across the country.
The minister also extended congratulations to President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for their unwavering support for women’s football and the broader Nigerian sports community under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“As Minister of Women Affairs, I am immensely proud. Tonight, every Nigerian girl sees a reflection of her dreams in your victory. You have not only lifted a trophy, you have lifted hearts,” she added.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to advancing policies and programs that empower women and girls in sports and all sectors of national life.
