The Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), under the leadership of Maj. Gen. A.B. Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Military High Command’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of troops engaged in counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, OPHK, disclosed this in a statement following the Theatre Commander’s operational assessment visit to formations under Sector 2 OPHK.
The visit covered key locations including Sector 2 Headquarters in Damaturu, 233 Battalion Damaturu, 159 Battalion Geidam, and Forward Operating Bases in Bukharti, Kanama, Babbangida, and Kukurta. The objective, according to the statement, was to assess troop feeding, overall well-being, and directly interact with personnel to address immediate challenges.
Maj. Gen. Abubakar praised the troops for their resilience and commitment in the ongoing fight against insurgency. “Remain disciplined, maintain an aggressive posture, and sustain offensive operations to completely defeat the terrorists and return total normalcy to the North-East region,” he charged.
He also conveyed the message of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. O.O. Oluyede, that “any soldier who performed exceptionally well in the line of duty will be recognised and encouraged accordingly.”
The commander further urged the troops to adhere strictly to the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s policy on social media usage and to channel their concerns through appropriate military authorities.
During the visit, Maj. Gen. Abubakar commissioned several new and renovated projects, including the Sector 2 Main Repair Group Vehicle Bay. He also inspected the Army Logistics Base 3, the Level II Field Hospital in Damaturu, and other critical combat enablers and troop deployments.
A notable highlight of the tour was the decoration of Inspector M.D. Yusuf, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent II of Police. Other highlights included the presentation of operational briefs, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs.
The Theatre Commander was accompanied by Brigadier General Beyedi Martins, Acting Commander Sector 2 OPHK; the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School; component commanders; and senior staff officers from the Headquarters Theatre Command.
