Wike Heads to China to Finalise Water Supply Deal for FCT Satellite Towns
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, is travelling to China to advance talks on a major water supply project aimed at improving access to potable water in the FCT’s satellite towns.
According to a statement by Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, Wike is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, en route to China for the official engagements.
While in China, Wike is scheduled to meet with executives of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group to finalise discussions on the project, which falls under a broader infrastructure initiative driven by President Bola Tinubu.
The project stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2024 during President Tinubu’s visit to China. The MoU, involving the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group, targets improvements in electricity and water supply in the FCT, especially underserved satellite areas.
As part of this effort, President Tinubu approved N50 billion for potable water projects across key area councils including Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.
Olayinka noted that the initiative is in line with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, aimed at restoring public confidence through the execution of people-oriented projects. Wike’s mission in China is expected to cement implementation timelines and funding structures for the water supply expansion.
