Wike Rejects PDP Exit Calls: “I Built This House, I Won’t Leave”
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared he will not leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite his ongoing support for President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in an interview with BBC, Wike said he is not afraid of political pressure and dismissed calls for him to exit the party.
“I can’t do that, I’m not afraid – how will I build a house and you now ask me to vacate the place? It’s you that will leave the house, not me that built it,” Wike said. “You want to spoil a house that I built? I won’t allow it. I will remain there.”
The former Rivers State governor criticised what he described as “empty threats” from some South-East PDP members, questioning their political relevance.
“The one that pains me is the threats from them. Who is there? Achike Udenwa, a former governor of Imo, has no single National Assembly member and didn’t even give his party three percent of votes. Yet, he is threatening,” Wike said.
“Sam Egwu, former governor of Ebonyi, has no National Assembly member and no governor. He is empty, yet issuing threats. We that have produced governors and National Assembly members have not threatened anyone.”
Wike emphasized that being in opposition doesn’t equate to arrogance or impunity, adding that such traits are more associated with those in power.
