The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has revolutionized land title processing in the territory, signing 5,481 Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O) between August 2023 and December 2024.

This was disclosed by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Olayinka, this milestone surpasses previous records, as the total Cs of O signed by the FCT Administration over 13 years, from 2010 to 2023, stood at 8,400.

“From May 2010 to May 2015, a total of 5,655 Cs of O were produced and signed, while 1,174 were signed between 2015 and May 2019. Also, a total of 1,571 Cs of O were signed between May 2019 and May 2023,” he stated.

He further highlighted the sharp contrast under the current administration. “From May 2023, when President Tinubu assumed office, to Dec. 31, 2024, a total of 5,481 Cs of O were signed by the FCT Minister,” Olayinka added.

The spokesman emphasized the improved efficiency in processing land titles. He noted that once payments are made, land allottees now receive their Cs of O within two weeks, a significant improvement from the years-long delays of the past.

“This has changed in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” he said. “Even sourcing information on when a C of O is ready and details of the collector, which used to take months, can now be done within 72 hours.”

Olayinka also revealed that in the coming weeks, land allottees with ready Cs of O would begin receiving SMS notifications informing them that their titled documents are available for collection.

The new system, he said, reflects a commitment to transparency and prompt service delivery in the FCT.
