Wike to Request Youth Secretariat from President Tinubu:
Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has promised to approach President Bola Tinubu regarding calls for creating a Youth Secretariat in the FCT Administration (FCTA).
Wike made the promise during a town hall meeting in Abuja on Saturday, organized by the FCTA to dissuade residents from participating in the planned nationwide protest on August 1 over hunger and hardship.
In response to youth representatives advocating for a Youth Secretariat to address issues related to youth development and empowerment, Wike said, “If I send a memo to him to create a Youth Secretariat, Mr. President will create it. As youths, I suggest you write and send the memo to us, and I will forward it to Mr. President.”
The minister emphasized the importance of peace and order in the FCT and noted that protests must be conducted within the law. He also highlighted President Tinubu’s efforts to include youth in the FCTA, citing appointments of young individuals to various roles, including the Coordinator of the Satellite Development Department and several Mandate Secretaries.
Regarding women’s inclusion, Wike pointed out the establishment of the Women Affairs Secretariat and the appointment of women to key positions in the FCTA.
The meeting also saw the Abuja Aborigines Network condemn the planned protest, with its president, Dr. Donald Amagbo, pledging to support security agencies in maintaining peace. The network stressed the importance of avoiding unrest and acknowledged the progress made by Wike’s administration in the FCT.
