Wild Elephant Kills Farmer in Ogun State, Community Urges Government Action

A wild elephant has killed a farmer, Mr. Kalamu, in the Itasin-Imobi community of Ijebu East Local Government Area, Ogun State.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, July 28, when the elephant reportedly stormed the victim’s farm and fatally attacked him.

According to residents, the animal has been a recurring threat for over four years, frequently invading farms, destroying crops, and damaging fishing gear.

“This elephant keeps coming into our community to destroy our crops, damage our fishing nets, and now it has taken a life,” a resident told Zagazola Makama.

Following the fatal attack, the community is calling on the Ogun State Government and relevant wildlife authorities to intervene urgently to prevent further loss of life and property.

As of the time of this report, no official statement had been issued by the Ogun State Ministry of Forestry or the Ministry of Environment.
