Wiz Khalifa Faces Possible Nine-Month Jail Term in Romania Over Marijuana Offence
American rapper Wiz Khalifa is facing a possible nine-month prison sentence in Romania over a marijuana-related offence, although his legal team is moving to overturn the ruling.
On Thursday, December 18, Romania’s Constanța Court of Appeal upheld an appeal filed by the DIICOT Constanța Territorial Service, seeking a custodial sentence for the rapper. The decision replaces an earlier ruling that imposed a fine of 3,000 lei (about $700).
Sources familiar with the case said the sentence is not yet final, as Wiz Khalifa’s lawyers have initiated an appeal in an effort to secure an alternative outcome.
The case dates back to July 2024, when the rapper was arrested and briefly detained after performing at the Beach Please Festival in Costinești. He was reportedly seen smoking marijuana on stage while dancing to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s track “The Next Episode.”
Romanian authorities subsequently charged him under the country’s strict drug laws, which criminalise the possession and use of cannabis.
Legal analysts note that Romania enforces tough penalties for drug-related offences, making the appeal process a potentially difficult one for the rapper.
