Wizkid to Headline CANEX 2025 Mega Concert in Algeria Amid ₦6.4bn Pay Rumours
Global Afrobeat icon Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has been confirmed as the headline performer at the CANEX 2025 Mega Concert taking place today, Friday, September 5, in Algeria.
The concert is a highlight of the Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) 2025, an expansive platform merging the continent’s creative industries with innovation in defence and security sectors. Organisers described the event as a celebration of Africa’s diverse talents, featuring artists from South Africa, Algeria, Congo, Kenya, and more, with Wizkid positioned as the festival’s marquee act.
“Renowned for his infectious Afrobeat rhythms, chart-topping hits, and magnetic stage presence, Wizkid has become one of Africa’s most celebrated music icons,” CANEX officials said in a press release. “At CANEX, his music will bring unmatched energy, signature Afrobeat grooves, and a celebration of African culture that promises to unite audiences and create unforgettable live moments.”
In the lead-up to the event, social media has been abuzz with claims that Wizkid may have been paid ₦6.4 billion (approximately $4.2 million) to perform at the concert. While organisers have not confirmed the figure, accounts like @tooxclusive_com, @entdaily001, and @ChaftsAfrica have all posted similar figures across platforms including Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
One X user, @Jahboy, stated, “Wizkid will be paid $4.2 million to headline the Carnex Mega Concert on September 5.”
Although unverified, the claim reflects the artist’s increasing market value and global demand. In recent years, Wizkid has consistently headlined international festivals and sold-out arenas. In August 2025, he led the AIA Sound Festival in Denmark, reportedly earning $3 million. Earlier in June, he packed Madison Square Garden in New York, with estimated ticket sales reaching $1 million.
- In 2018, he reportedly earned ₹50 million (₦245.9 million / $681,200) for a royal wedding performance in Jodhpur, India.
- His shows at London’s O2 Arena and State Farm Arena (Atlanta, USA) were said to bring in $900,000 each.
- Wizkid is also one of few African artists to consistently chart in major global music rankings, further cementing his legacy.
As the spotlight turns to Algeria for CANEX 2025, Wizkid’s headline set is expected to not only draw crowds but symbolise Africa’s growing global cultural influence.
