Wizkid’s “Joro” Certified Platinum in France, Celebrating 30 Million Streams
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, born Ayodeji Balogun, has achieved a major international milestone as his 2019 hit single “Joro” has officially been certified Platinum in France.
The Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique (SNEP) confirmed the certification on Instagram, announcing that the track surpassed 30 million equivalent streams in the country. The post read: “Wizkid’s track ‘Joro’ is certified Platinum Single! 30,000,000 equivalent streams. Bravo!”
Released as a promotional single for his critically acclaimed album “Made in Lagos”, “Joro” is a mid-tempo Afrobeat track produced by Northboi, showcasing Wizkid’s signature smooth vocals over pulsating rhythms. The song became an instant hit, amassing 10 million views in its first month in Nigeria and earning nominations at The Headies Awards 2020, including Song of the Year.
“Joro” has also enjoyed global success, earning Gold Certification in Canada with over 40,000 units sold and racking up more than 330 million views on video platforms. By November 2024, it had moved over 500,000 units in the U.S., qualifying for RIAA Gold Certification.
This latest accolade adds to Wizkid’s growing list of international recognitions. It is his fifth SNEP certification, including two diamond awards for “One Dance” and “Bella”, and gold plaques for “Boom” and his Grammy-nominated hit “Essence” featuring Tems.
The certification underscores the global appeal of Nigerian music and the continuing success of Starboy Entertainment in the French and international music markets.
