An Ibadan Grade A Customary Court at Mapo on Friday arraigned a 40-year-old woman, Titilope Bamidele, and a 35-year-old man, Aliu Ajibola, for allegedly attacking three policemen and obstructing law enforcement duties.
The duo, facing charges of conspiracy, breach of public peace, and assault, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Presiding Judge, Mrs. S. Akintayo, granted them bail at N500,000 each, with two sureties, one of whom must be a blood relative. She ordered their remand at Agodi custodial facility if they fail to meet the bail conditions.
According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, the incident occurred on March 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the Veterinary area of Ibadan. The accused allegedly assaulted policemen—Bashiru Sodeeq, Ishola Mukaila, and Abdulhakeem Qowiyyu—who are attached to the Mokola Police Division.
The prosecutor told the court that Bamidele and Ajibola, along with others still at large, obstructed the officers during an operation, enabling one Bolaji Bamidele to escape police custody. The duo allegedly assaulted Qowiyyu by slapping him, punching him, and tearing his uniform.
The charges, Ayeni stated, violate Sections 249, 356, and 351 of the Oyo State Criminal Code, 2000.
The court adjourned the case until May 15 for trial.
