Enugu State authorities have arrested a woman, Mrs. Ada Ogbogu, following allegations that she attacked her three-year-old stepson with a pestle, breaking his thigh bone.

The arrest took place on Friday after swift intervention from the Enugu State Government.

Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, confirmed the incident, stating that Mrs. Ogbogu, a resident of Sunrise Estate in Emene, is now in police custody.

“This decisive action underscores our commitment to child protection and intolerance for abuse in any form,” Mrs. Enih said.

Acting on a tip from a whistleblower, Mrs. Enih and the police team mobilized to locate the suspect, eventually arresting her at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu, where the young victim is receiving treatment.

The child’s severe injury has drawn widespread concern, with Enugu State’s first lady, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, closely following the case to ensure the child receives full medical care and that justice is served.

Governor Peter Mbah’s administration has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on child abuse, pledging to hold offenders accountable. This case, officials emphasized, sends a clear message that child welfare is a top priority in Enugu.
