Woman Faces Prosecution for Tearing Husband’s Passport at Lagos Airport, Says NIS
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced plans to prosecute a woman who tore her husband’s international passport at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos. The incident, which was captured in a viral video, has sparked an official investigation by the NIS.
According to a statement issued on Monday by NIS spokesman Kenneth Udo, the woman has been identified and summoned for questioning. Her actions are being treated as a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015. If found guilty, she could face penalties as outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.
The NIS emphasized its commitment to upholding the law and maintaining national security, stating that the integrity of Nigeria’s legal instruments must be preserved.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, shows the woman, identified as Favour Igiebor, tearing her husband’s Nigerian passport at the airport. After the incident, she was seen leaving the airport with her children, while airport officials advised the husband to remain calm. The NIS has reiterated that such acts will not be tolerated and will be dealt with according to the law.
