A 25-year-old woman was killed, and 10 others were injured in a shooting at the central bus station in Beersheba, southern Israel, in what authorities are treating as a suspected terror attack.
The assailant was shot dead by police at the scene, where witnesses reported seeing several victims, including those inside a nearby McDonald’s.
The Israeli ambulance service confirmed that the 10 injured are being treated for gunshot wounds, with one woman in “moderate to serious” condition and four others in “moderate” condition. All victims have been taken to Soroka Hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, Israel’s Transport Minister, Miri Regev, called for tougher measures, including the deportation of terrorists’ families, stating that “deterrent punishment” is needed to prevent future attacks.
This attack comes less than a week after seven people were killed in a combined shooting and stabbing incident in Tel Aviv. Israeli authorities remain on high alert as the anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 assault approaches, which marked the start of the ongoing Gaza conflict.
