A businesswoman, Woye Ella, has asked an FCT Customary Court in Garki, Abuja, to dissolve her marriage, alleging that her husband attempted to set her on fire.
In her petition, Ella claimed that her husband, Joseph, frequently overreacts to minor issues, sometimes chasing her with dangerous objects such as a screwdriver or knife.
“It got to a point that he poured petrol on me, intending to set me ablaze. My neighbors saved my life that day,” she told the court.
She added that Joseph was subdued by neighbors and detained at a police station for four days before his father intervened.
Ella said she eventually moved out of their home for her safety and asked the court to order Joseph to vacate the apartment, which she claimed to own.
“I bought the land and built the house myself,” she stated.
Joseph, a tiler, denied all allegations.
Presiding Judge Festus Enomhonse adjourned the case to Feb. 24 for hearing.
