The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial rapist who allegedly defiled two three-year-old girls in Potiskum, as well as a herder who threatened a farmer with a gun in Damaturu.

Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the arrests in a statement on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

According to him, 19-year-old Dahiru Ali, a domestic worker from Hayin Kwari, was apprehended by the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters after luring a three-year-old girl with sweets and milk to a secluded spot in the Mutawassada area, where he assaulted her.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect had earlier committed a similar offence against another three-year-old girl in the same neighbourhood but at a different house. He has confessed to the crime and investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.

In a separate incident on September 22, 2025, operatives of A’ Division Police Headquarters, Damaturu, arrested 24-year-old herder Ibrahim Alh. Ahmadu of Dusuwa Village, Kalallawa, for allegedly threatening a farmer with a gun after trespassing with his cattle.

Abdulkarim said the suspect was arrested following a distress call, and a shotgun with live ammunition was recovered from him during the sting operation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned both incidents, describing them as “heinous acts that will not be tolerated.” He warned that illegal possession of firearms and sexual violence against children would attract the full weight of the law.

He further urged parents to closely monitor their children to protect them from predators and called on residents to provide timely information that could help the police in maintaining public safety.
