The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gombe State Command, has deployed 620 regular and special marshall to ensure proper traffic management during the festive season and New Year celebration in the state.
Mr Samson Kaura, the Sector Commander in the state disclosed this on Monday in Gombe through a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Janet Kassa.
Kaura stated that the deployment of personnel were for traffic control, rescue services, clearing of road obstruction and a reminder to the public of the need to drive cautiously so as to avoid the menace of road traffic crashes on our roads.
He further stated that 9 operational vehicles, 1 tow truck with 5 ambulances at 3 zebra points and 2 help areas erected for prompt emergency response in the 11 local government areas of the state were also deployed.
“As part of its response to this recurring experience, the FRSC steps up its awareness and enforcement efforts geared towards stemming the ugly tides characteristic of the season with a view to ensuring that incidents are curtailed and where they occurred, responses could be activated urgently.
“The last quarter of every year is often characterized with a surge in vehicular and human traffic and its attendant negative Consequences have always been of concern to the FRSC and indeed the general public.”
The sector commander called on the people of Gombe to avoid overloading, use of phone while driving, speed among others while advising passengers and other road users to speak up against dangerous driving as crash kills more passengers than drivers.
He wished all citizens of Gombe a crash-free yuletide celebration and a prosperous new year.
