The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olanrewaju Ishola, revealed on Wednesday that the police command is yet to be informed of the security plans banks have in place for the upcoming yuletide season.

Speaking during a meeting with Operation Officers from various banks, Ishola emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to understand their security strategies for the festive period. However, he assured that the command would still fulfill its duty by deploying officers to all necessary locations.

The commissioner urged bank officials to profile police officers assigned to their institutions to ensure proper documentation, expressing concerns over unauthorized individuals wearing police uniforms.

“How do you get your mobile police officers? The source determines the service you receive,” Ishola said. He added that his command ensures officers are fit for duty, stating, “I can’t give a gun to a drunkard or someone who hasn’t slept well.”

He directed commanders overseeing bank security to submit daily lists of officers posted to banks, ensuring better oversight. Ishola also addressed the rise in fraudulent transfers, urging banks to improve their systems for tracking funds and cooperate with the police in fact-finding missions without fear of mistreatment.

Bank officials shared challenges such as the late arrival and early departure of mobile police officers, as well as concerns over cybercrime, which they said has led to significant financial losses. They pledged to support the police with timely security information in their areas of operation.
