Yusuf Buhari Declares 2027 House of Reps Bid, Secures APC Backing in Katsina
Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, 2026, Yusuf Buhari announced his bid to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders across the constituency, noting that his ambition is driven by a desire to promote effective leadership, infrastructural development, and human capital growth.
“I wish to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives… as my contribution to ensuring good and qualitative leadership,” he stated, while appealing for support from party members and constituents.
The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the late president, who said the move came after broad engagement with key political actors in the area.
Yusuf Buhari’s declaration comes amid growing backing within the APC. Stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area have reportedly endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the constituency, describing his candidacy as widely accepted within the party.
At the same meeting, party leaders also reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda as APC flag bearers for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, respectively.
