Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to present a new strategy aimed at ending the war to the Ukrainian parliament, his office announced ahead of an extraordinary session scheduled for Wednesday.
Zelensky’s plan follows a recent diplomatic tour of Western capitals, including Washington, London, Paris, Rome, and Berlin, where he outlined his “victory strategy.” Key components of the plan include Ukraine’s invitation to join NATO and permission to deploy long-range Western weapons for deeper strikes inside Russia.
The president’s agenda also prioritizes enhanced air defense systems and the use of Polish and Romanian territory to counter Russian drone threats. Additionally, Ukraine seeks increased Western investment in its defense industry to boost its armament capabilities.
Zelensky has consistently expressed hopes of concluding the war on favorable terms by 2025. The conflict, which escalated in February 2022 with Russia’s full-scale invasion, has seen Ukraine reclaim parts of Russia’s southern Kursk region while Russia still controls roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea since 2014.
