Zelensky Unveils Plan for ‘Reliable Peace’ in Ukraine Ahead of U.S. Visit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Friday that he will present a plan to U.S. President Joe Biden aimed at strengthening Ukraine and paving the way for a “reliable peace” amid the ongoing war with Russia. The proposal, set to be discussed during Zelensky’s visit to the United States later this month, is expected to feature prominently during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Speaking at the Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv, Zelensky acknowledged that the plan would not bring an immediate end to the conflict, but emphasized its potential to make Ukraine more resilient. “It won’t stop [Russian President Vladimir] Putin outright, but it will help,” Zelensky said during a Q&A session led by foreign policy analyst Fareed Zakaria. “It will make Ukraine stronger and could push Putin to reconsider how to end the war.”

The high-profile conference, organized by Ukrainian billionaire Viktor Pinchuk, brought together Western officials, Ukrainian leaders, and civil society figures to discuss the future of Ukraine. Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine’s strength is key to achieving peace. “If we want to hear one day that a just peace has come to Ukraine, we must work now to ensure Ukraine is strong enough for victory,” he stated.

Zelensky also renewed his call for Western allies to lift restrictions on long-range missiles, arguing that these capabilities are essential for Ukraine to target Russian forces and infrastructure deep inside enemy territory. Following the conference, he took to Telegram to stress the importance of long-range strikes, noting that Russia’s logistics and military reserves are based far from the front lines.

Zelensky is expected to meet with Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his U.S. visit, where the topic of Ukraine’s missile capabilities will likely be discussed.
