Zelenskyy Seeks EU, NATO Backing for Ukraine’s ‘Victory Plan’ Against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday urged Western allies to support his “victory plan” aimed at ending the ongoing war with Russia, emphasizing that Ukraine’s strength and diplomatic efforts are key to resolving the conflict.

Ahead of meetings with European Union leaders at a summit in Brussels, Zelenskyy outlined his five-point plan, which aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense and secure its future. He noted that the plan’s success relies on the continued commitment of Ukraine’s allies, not on Russia’s willingness to negotiate.

Later, Zelenskyy was set to meet NATO defense ministers, seeking their backing for his proposal. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte assured Zelenskyy that the alliance’s 32 members remain united in their support, though he did not provide a timeline for Ukraine’s NATO membership, a central element of the “victory plan.”

The plan also includes calls for Ukraine to receive long-range missiles to strike Russian targets, a move that has been met with resistance from some allies, including Germany. Zelenskyy emphasized the need for unity among EU leaders to overcome such hesitations and maintain pressure on Russia.

As Ukrainian forces continue to struggle against well-equipped Russian troops, Zelenskyy’s appeal for stronger and faster support from the West remains urgent, with EU leaders reaffirming their “unwavering commitment” to aid Ukraine for as long as necessary.
