Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has cautioned residents against aiding, harbouring, or providing any form of support to Boko Haram insurgents operating in the state.

The warning follows a recent operation by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which carried out an airstrike in the Jilli area of Gubio Local Government Area on Saturday.

Jilli, a border community between Gubio in Borno and Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, has been identified as a key location of concern.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, the governor described the Jilli market as a notorious hub allegedly used by insurgents and their logistics suppliers.

Zulum said the state government had earlier shut down Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago as part of efforts to curb insurgent activities in the region. He added that consultations were ongoing with the Yobe State Government and military authorities regarding the latest developments.

The governor emphasised that the state maintains close coordination with security agencies before resettling communities or reopening markets, especially in areas previously affected by insurgency.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability, Zulum urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible information to aid ongoing military operations.
