21-Year-Old Arraigned Over Alleged N4.8m Car Theft in Ibadan

A 21-year-old man, Daniel Obidikwu, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing an Opel Zafira valued at N4.8 million.

Obidikwu, who was charged with a one-count offence of stealing, pleaded not guilty to the allegation.

Following his plea, the President of the court, Mrs O.E. Owoseni, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Owoseni ordered that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendant and provide evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Oyo State Government.

She subsequently adjourned the case until October 29 for trial.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that Obidikwu allegedly committed the offence on July 27, at about 6 p.m., at Joke Plaza Shopping Complex, Bodija, Ibadan.

Ayeni alleged that the defendant stole an Opel Zafira with registration number AGG302EA, valued at N4.8 million, from where it was parked.

He told the court that the vehicle belonged to Mrs Omotola Odubiyi.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
