23-Year-Old Law School Student Dies After Alleged Fall From Four-Storey Hostel Building in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of 23-year-old Faith Ajoke Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, who allegedly fell from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building at the institution in Victoria Island.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, after another student discovered Alayande unresponsive within the hostel premises and alerted the institution’s Chief Matron.
According to a report shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the matron visited the scene and subsequently reported the incident at the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30 a.m.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, stating that a suicide note was reportedly found after the deceased’s hostel mate and a relative became concerned about her whereabouts.
Adebisi said the student allegedly went to the rooftop of the four-storey building before the two could locate her.
“I can confirm the incident. The deceased reportedly wrote a suicide note and, before her hostel mate and a relative could locate her, she jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey building,” the police spokesperson said.
She added that the hostel matron reported the incident to the police, after which officers visited the scene.
“Her body has been evacuated to a morgue for preservation,” Adebisi added.
The police said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Uchenna Marvin, who shared a photo of Alayande on social media, described her death as heartbreaking and recalled supervising her during her university years when she worked on her research project.
According to Marvin, Alayande graduated from the university before gaining admission to the Nigerian Law School in 2026.
He also recalled discussions he had with her while teaching Medical Law, particularly on issues surrounding the right to life and end-of-life decisions.
The circumstances surrounding Alayande’s death remain under investigation by the police.
