The Palestinian Authority has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate residents of the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that the two-state solution remains the only path to lasting peace.

“The Palestinian leadership affirms its firm position that the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy and international law, is the guarantee of security, stability, and peace,” Hussein al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s (PLO) executive committee, wrote on X on Wednesday.

Reaffirming opposition to any forced displacement, al-Sheikh stated, “We were born here, we have lived here, and we will remain here.”

Trump’s remarks came after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday, where he declared that the U.S. “will take over the Gaza Strip” and suggested relocating its approximately two million Palestinian residents to other countries.

Legal experts warn that such forced relocation would violate international humanitarian law. Rule 129 of customary international humanitarian law prohibits the deportation or forced transfer of civilians from occupied territory unless justified by imperative security or military reasons—conditions unlikely to apply to Gaza’s situation.
