What began as a routine security assignment at a poultry farm in Ado-Ekiti ended in a prison sentence for two men convicted of stealing the very livestock they were employed to protect.

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced Moses Uker, 35, and Monday Gambo, 32, to three years imprisonment each after finding them guilty of conspiracy and stealing 500 chickens valued at N9 million.

The two convicts, who served as security guards at the poultry farm, were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun on Dec. 5, 2025, on a two-count charge.

Delivering judgment, Adeosun found the defendants guilty on both counts and convicted them accordingly. The court sentenced each of them to one year imprisonment on the conspiracy charge and three years on the stealing charge, ordering that the terms run concurrently. The sentence carries no option of fine.

During the trial, the prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the offences were committed on Nov. 19, 2025, in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that they had conspired to commit the felony of stealing.

According to him, the convicts, who were security guards at a poultry farm, stole 500 chickens valued at nine million naira belonging to one Mr Falade Solomon.

He said that the offences contravene the provisions of section 302(1)(a) and 421 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

To establish its case, the prosecution called two witnesses and tendered the convict’s statement in evidence, leading to the court’s decision to convict and sentence the two men.
