The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle concealed in an uncompleted building in Eket, reinforcing efforts to combat crime in the state.
DSP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, revealing that the discovery followed credible intelligence.
According to John, police operatives conducted a search operation at an uncompleted building behind Heritage Polytechnic, Ikot Udota, Eket, where they found the rifle hidden inside black cult regalia. An empty magazine was also recovered at the scene.
She stated that the firearm was likely stashed by criminals for illegal activities, but the police’s swift intervention foiled any potential plans.
John reassured residents that the command, under the leadership of CP Baba Azare, remains committed to ensuring their safety. She added that investigations were underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for concealing the weapon.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities to enhance security in the state.
