Four Arraigned in Badagry for Alleged Visa Fraud
On Wednesday, the police in Lagos brought two men and two women before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over allegations of visa fraud.
The defendants—Zainab Abdullahi, 26; Olanrewaju Mariam, 25; Sulaimon Abdulatif, 24; and Yehuza Jubril, 23—faced charges of felony, stealing, and fraud. Their addresses were not disclosed. All pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Insp. Edet Ekpo reported that the offences occurred between January and July at Low Cost Housing Estate, Badagry, Lagos. The defendants allegedly conspired to obtain money under false pretenses.
Ekpo stated, “The defendants fraudulently obtained N1,600,000 from Abdul-Salam Idris, the complainant, claiming they would secure his entry into Manchester City Football Club in England, despite knowing they had no affiliation with any club. They then converted the money for their own use.”
The alleged offences violate Sections 411, 314, and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate N.A. Layeni granted each defendant bail at N1 million, requiring two sureties each. The sureties must be company directors and deposit N25,000 to the Chief Registrar of the court.
The case was adjourned to Aug. 15 for hearing.
