Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha Dies at 47 After Prolonged Coma

Thailand is in mourning following the death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who passed away at the age of 47 after spending nearly four years in a coma.

According to the Bureau of the Royal Household, the princess died on June 11 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok, where she had been under continuous medical care since her sudden collapse in December 2022.

Widely regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the Thai royal family, Princess Bajrakitiyabha—popularly known as “Princess Pa”—was respected for her work as a lawyer, diplomat, prosecutor, military officer, and advocate for women’s rights. Her public service career earned her recognition both within Thailand and internationally.

Her passing has deepened national grief and is expected to renew public and political discussions surrounding royal succession in Thailand, a topic traditionally treated with sensitivity.
