Rangers Sack Manager Philippe Clement After St Mirren Defeat

Rangers Football Club have dismissed manager Philippe Clement following a 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

The 50-year-old Belgian exits after 16 months in charge, with Rangers trailing league leaders Celtic by 13 points.

“Rangers would like to put on record their sincere thanks to Philippe for his hard work and dedication during his spell in charge. A further update from the club will follow in due course,” the club announced in a brief statement on Sunday.

Despite leading Rangers to the Europa League last 16, where they face Fenerbahce next month, Clement’s tenure has been marred by domestic setbacks. The team suffered a shock Scottish Cup exit to second-tier Queen’s Park this month and lost the League Cup final to Celtic on penalties in December.
